VM40 Dual-Channel Wireless Shotgun Microphone with 32-bit Float Recording
Product description
Supports both wired and wireless operation so you can work with a cable when needed or run untethered on location. In wireless mode the system can record single or dual channels via the receiver, giving options for solo or multi-person setups and synchronized tracks for easier post production.
Audio capture is handled at 48kHz with 32-bit float resolution for wide dynamic range and headroom. The microphone uses a 14mm gold-plated capsule and a supercardioid directional pattern, and it offers a 100Hz low-cut and a 10kHz high-frequency boost to help reduce rumble and add clarity to speech. Those elements combine to reproduce fuller, brighter voice recordings with less ambient interference.
A built-in 32GB memory provides a safety copy of recorded takes — enough to store many hours of uncompressed audio — so you can keep a local backup on the transmitter if the camera feed is interrupted. This makes the unit useful both as a primary mic and as a secondary recorder during shoots.
Wireless transmission runs on 2.4GHz with open-field range claims up to 200 meters, designed for stable links with low latency for long-distance shoots. For wired connections the unit supports USB-C digital output and 3.5mm TRS/TRRS analog output, making it compatible with cameras, smartphones, tablets and computers for video, podcasting, interviews, live streaming and more.
The package ships with the microphone and receiver, USB-C charging/data cable(s), 3.5mm audio cable(s), foam and furry wind protection, a shock-mount/stand adapter and a padded carrying case to protect the kit on the move. The microphone housing and accessories are built for field use, with synthetic windjammers and foam materials to reduce wind noise.
Bluetooth integration with the manufacturer’s mobile app lets you monitor device status, tweak settings and manage multiple units remotely. Typical use cases include mounting on-camera for run-and-gun vlogging, placing on a boom for interviews, handholding for vox-pop work, or using the internal recorder as an insurance track during multi-camera shoots.
Pros
- 32-bit float recording with 32GB onboard backup
- Flexible wired/wireless modes and long-range transmission
- Multiple outputs and app control for broad compatibility
Cons
- Can pick up room noise if placed far from subject
- Occasional app UI quibbles
- Screen or battery issues reported by some users
VerdictThe VM40 is a flexible on-camera shotgun that blends modern digital capture with practical backup features. Its 48kHz/32-bit float recording and 14mm gold-plated capsule deliver clear audio and forgiveness in gain settings, while onboard 32GB storage protects against lost takes. Wireless range and app control add convenience for run-and-gun shoots, though users should mind mic placement and wind p

Broken Display — Disappointed
After one use the display went blank and I missed the return window. The mic still records but I can’t see levels, which is frustrating. Customer service said the screen issue is likely a hardware fault and repair would be at my cost since it’s past warranty.

Reliable Solo Creator Mic — Practical and Backup-Friendly
I’ve used the VM40 on outdoor shoots, gym clips and desk videos. The 32-bit float capture is a big plus — less stress over perfect gain. The onboard recorder as a backup saved me once. I found clean results with the transmitter gain near 9–10 and the receiver a bit higher. Sound is best with the mic close; placement matters most. Outdoors, always use the wind cover.

Support Unresponsive After Purchase
The mic itself is excellent, but after-sales response has been poor. I’ve tried reaching support several times to buy an extra transmitter with no reply, which makes me nervous about future technical help.

Handles Large Group Podcasts Impressively
Captured a roundtable of eight people about 10ft from camera and the results were very clear with good EQ. The internal recorder served as a reliable backup alongside my camera’s tracks. I own other systems from the brand and they work well together.

Very Good and Convenient for Interviews
Wireless operation is very handy for interviews; I often use it handheld. Sound is clean and I didn’t notice any troubling noise in my tests.

Transforms Group Outdoor Shoots
This mic changed how we record group conversations at camp. It picks up several people around a fire much better than two-lavalier setups, and the dead cat windshield cuts wind noise nicely. Also excellent for close-up cooking ASMR where you want every little sound.

Internal Battery Died After 4 Months
The internal battery stopped working after four months. I returned that unit and ordered another, hoping it was a one-off defect.

Excellent Wireless Shotgun — 4.5/5
This stands out for clarity and wireless flexibility. 32-bit float stops clipping and 2.4GHz transmission stayed steady. Long battery life and broad device compatibility are great. App UI could be smoother and room noise increases if the mic is over a foot away, but float recording helps recover levels.

Prompt Replacement, Solid Performance
My first unit arrived defective, but support sent a replacement quickly. The new mic works great for livestreaming sports from a 16ft tripod. Sound quality and battery life held up through a five-hour session. The included case fits neatly in my kit and setup was straightforward.
