Philips Flip & Slide Universal Companion Remote for Fire TV & Smart Devices
Product description
Control multiple devices — This companion remote lets you operate your Fire TV player and as many as four other audio/video components, such as televisions, Blu-ray or DVD players, cable/satellite receivers, soundbars and other streaming media players.
Award-recognized design — The remote earned CES 2020 recognition for innovation and includes a patent-pending Flip & Slide Cradle that securely houses a compatible Fire TV remote (sold separately), keeping it attached and ready for streaming. Note: not compatible with some older Fire remotes, including the Fire TV Basic (1st Gen, 2nd Gen) and the Fire TV Stick remote (1st Gen). The handset also incorporates side-access power and volume controls along with soft-touch clickable buttons for a tactile feel.
Wide device compatibility — Philips built this universal remote to work with the largest brands and supports thousands of current audio and video devices, making it easy to replace multiple remotes in a typical living-room setup.
Easy setup options — The remote arrives preprogrammed for immediate use with certain Samsung TVs and Roku players and offers automatic code search for other equipment. It includes primary audio control so you can change volume regardless of which device is active, and step-by-step online setup videos are provided. The remote requires two AAA batteries (not included) for operation.
What’s in the box and materials — The package contains the Philips universal companion remote and its removable cradle/cover designed to accept a compatible Fire TV remote. The body has a soft-touch finish with clearly labeled keys and a side-mounted rocker for volume and power. Exact physical dimensions are compact and sized to be larger than many stick remotes while still fitting comfortably in hand.
Support and warranty — Philips backs the product with a limited-lifetime warranty and U.S.-based technical support. If you need assistance, the support line is 844-816-0320.

Poor fit and tedious code search
The cradle wouldn’t accept my Fire TV remote without forcing it and then I couldn’t close the screws — the screws are minuscule and hard to work with. The automatic code-search process can take ages if the provided codes don’t work; I gave up after a half hour. Good idea but the build quality and UX felt cheap to me.

Surprisingly capable universal remote
Setup took a little time but the remote performs well and even accepts Apple TV button mapping smoothly. My only gripe is the battery cover — it’s held by two screws, so you need a small screwdriver just to change batteries, which seems unnecessary for a mainstream remote.

Really easy to use!
I can control my Samsung TV, a Fire Stick 4K, my soundbar and an IPTV app with this remote. I didn’t need to program anything — everything auto-configured when I inserted batteries. Very happy with how it works.

Comfortable for larger hands
The box arrived a little beat up and the slim cover that holds the stick was loose, so I glued the tabs and it has held since. The Fire Stick 4K didn’t fit, but an older stick did. My Vizio accepted the first code and everything has worked. Button placement and heft suit my large hands better than tiny remotes.

Large but gets the job done
It’s a bulky handset, but I programmed my TV, surround, DVD player and cable box without trouble and the Fire Stick fits into the back. It reduced five remotes down to one for me.

Good alternative to similar attachments
I looked for something to replace multiple remotes in our bedroom and this unit seemed like the next step after my SofaBaton F2 experience. The SofaBaton allowed combining a Gen 1 Fire Stick remote with a TV remote, but newer Fire Sticks weren’t supported. This Philips remote offered the same cradle concept without the U1/U2 programming hassle I wanted to avoid and felt similar in form factor.

Mostly meets my needs
It accomplished my goal of controlling three devices with one remote. The Fire Stick sits in the flip cradle perfectly and the Philips handset controls my Samsung TV and DirecTV box with no button issues. Downsides: you must remove the battery cover to slide the Fire remote in or out, and the screws are tiny and easy to misplace. I still sometimes use the Fire remote separately.

Easy to sync across many TVs
After cutting the cord and routing antenna coax to multiple sets, I wanted one remote for all my TVs. This Philips synced easily to each TV and my Fire Stick mounts neatly in the back. On newer sets the antenna channels and Fire content appear together and the remote lets me select them directly. Older sets sometimes require input switching, but the remote has a dedicated input button for that.

Excellent
Very good remote, straightforward programming, solid construction, and it accepts the other remote inside the cradle.

Exactly what I wanted
This solved my need to handle TV power, streaming and TV input switching with a single controller. Programming was straightforward using online instructions rather than the tiny printed sheet. The handset is a bit larger than my TV remote, which actually helps me keep track of it. Note: you can’t fully replace certain Fire TV functions — some pairing tasks still require the Fire TV remote.

Great single-remote solution for multiple devices
I picked the Fire TV Companion version. We had several remotes — TV, DVD, DVR and streaming stick — and this replaced most of them. The manual is clear and setup took only a few minutes. The Fire TV’s voice features still require the stick’s remote for some functions, but everyday navigation and volume control are handled well.

Didn’t work for my setup
The unit failed to control my device and support was difficult to reach. I spent a long time on the phone with overseas help and didn’t get a satisfactory resolution, so I can’t recommend it for my situation.
