Passive HD RJ45-to-BNC Video Balun Sets with Power Jack (2 Pairs)
Product description
Package contents and build
This kit ships with two pairs (four pieces) of passive HD video baluns and matching DC jack adapters (5.5 x 2.1 mm female/male). Housings are plastic with metal connectors; the BNC connectors are nickel-plated for improved signal transfer. Two size variations are listed: approximately 16.3 cm and 17 cm in length. Color: black.
What it does and compatibility
These baluns allow transmission of analog CCTV video and low-voltage power simultaneously over unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) CAT5 cable using RJ45 terminations. They are designed for analog HD systems — HD-AHD, HD-CVI and HD-TVI — and standard composite video (CVBS/960H). They are not compatible with IP network cameras or NVRs.
Distance guidelines
Typical maximum ranges are dependent on resolution and format: for HD-CVI/HD-TVI/AHD runs, 720P and 960P can reach roughly 250 m (820 ft) maximum, while 1080P and multi-megapixel analog signals (3MP–8MP) are usually reliable to about 200 m (656 ft). For standard composite analog (960H/CVBS) expect up to roughly 300 m (1,000 ft).
Power considerations and wiring
Because these are passive devices, voltage drop over cable matters. With a 12 V DC, 1 A supply, limit the run to about 90 ft (27 m). For longer cable runs consider supplying higher voltage (14–48 V DC) and proper regulation at the camera. Always wire camera-side and DVR-side RJ45 connections to the same pin/color standard; incorrect pair-wiring can damage cameras or recorders.
Limitations and installation notes
The RJ45 baluns are not waterproof and are intended for indoor installations only. There is no power/status indicator light on the units. They are passive transceivers: the baluns do not amplify signal. Install with standard RJ45 terminations and ensure compatible CCTV analog equipment.
Pros
- Transmits video and power over CAT5 cable
- Supports HD-CVI, HD-TVI, AHD and CVBS formats
- Nickel‑plated BNCs for stable signal
Cons
- Not suitable for IP cameras or NVRs
- Not waterproof — indoor use only
- Passive design requires voltage planning for long runs
VerdictA practical, low-cost way to run analog CCTV video and low-voltage power over standard CAT5 cable. The kit includes two pairs of baluns and jack adapters, uses nickel-plated BNCs for reliable signal transfer, and supports multiple HD-analog formats. It’s ideal for DIY installs and upgrades where running BNC is difficult. Keep in mind these are passive, indoor-only units with cable-length and volta

Well made but awkward power plugs
Quality feels good, but half the power plugs aren’t the right sex for my setup. Buy cheap adapters if you want to use every unit.
