Hardwired Photoelectric Smoke Alarm with 9V Backup — Interconnected Detector
Product description
Overview
This is a hardwired photoelectric smoke alarm designed to be interlinked across a home. Multiple units connect so that if one detector senses smoke, every interconnected alarm sounds. The audible alert exceeds 85 decibels to ensure household members are alerted promptly.
What’s included
Each kit contains one smoke detector, a detachable mounting plate, a quick-connect wiring harness (black/white/red leads), two mounting screws with drywall anchors, a DC 9V battery for backup power, and a user manual with installation and maintenance instructions.
Construction and size
The housing is molded from durable ABS plastic with a white finish. The detector measures roughly 5.5 inches (≈14 cm) in diameter and about 1.5 inches (≈3.8 cm) deep, making it suitable for standard ceiling or wall mounting boxes.
Power and lifespan
The unit is powered by the home’s AC circuit when hardwired and includes a DC 9V battery for power outages and continuous protection. A low-battery alert chirps to prompt replacement. The expected serviceable life of the detector is ten years; replace the unit at the end of the manufacturer-recommended lifespan.
Sensing and false-alarm reduction
This model uses a photoelectric sensing chamber optimized to pick up smoke from slow, smoldering fires. The design and sensing algorithm aim to reduce nuisance activations triggered by brief cooking smoke or steam while maintaining sensitivity to hazardous smoke conditions.
Controls and indicators
A single multi-function button serves as a test and silence control. Pressing it runs a weekly self-test that exercises the unit and, when interconnected, triggers the test on all linked alarms. The device features a steady green LED to show normal operation and a red LED that flashes at regular intervals (approximately every 40 seconds) when active. If the detector reports low voltage or a fault condition, pressing the test button can engage a Do Not Disturb mode for roughly ten hours to silence repeated alerts during nighttime hours.
Pros
- Interconnects up to 12 units for whole-home alerts
- Photoelectric sensor reduces cooking false alarms
- 9V battery backup for power outages
Cons
- Some users report chirping or early failures
- Not a sealed long-life battery — requires occasional replacement
- May need basic wiring skills for installation
VerdictThis hardwired, photoelectric alarm is built for whole-home protection: interconnect up to a dozen units so every detector sounds if one senses smoke, and a 9V battery keeps it running through outages. It emphasizes early detection of smoldering fires while cutting down on common nuisance triggers, like cooking, and offers a temporary Do Not Disturb silence to avoid nighttime flashing and chirps.

Solid replacement for aging detectors
Replaced my original alarms from the early 2000s. My husband installed the set in a few hours and they look and work fine.

Failed after about a year
After 14 months they began chirping nonstop. Disabling one only delayed it; then they started beeping every half hour. We had to replace them early and couldn’t get a refund due to no warranty and being past returns.

Installation was easier than I feared
I worried about swapping linked detectors, wire colors and tripping everything, but it went smoothly. The new unit used the same box and the quick-connect cord made matching black/white/red easy. I removed the old one wire at a time and capped leads as I went, which avoided cutting power to the whole circuit.

Seller helped with defective units
I had a couple units with defects. The seller responded and resolved the problem quickly. I’d order from them again.
