Meross Matter Smart Plug (Wi‑Fi) — Energy‑Monitoring Outlet
Product description
Matter interoperability: This smart plug is built to the Matter standard so it can be used across certified ecosystems including Apple Home, Alexa, Google Home and SmartThings. Once onboarded via a Matter flow, the device can be discovered and controlled by any Matter‑capable controller, simplifying cross‑platform setups.
Energy metering: Each plug includes an internal power meter that reports real‑time consumption and stores historical usage in the companion app. That data helps you understand standby draw and device energy habits so you can reduce wasteful power usage.
Effortless Echo pairing: The plug supports a one‑step Echo discovery that can automatically link the device to Alexa when your account details match the Echo’s account. If that instant pairing isn’t available, standard Matter pairing is still supported using the app or QR scanning.
Local control and privacy: Designed for LAN operation, the plug can be used without mandatory cloud registration and avoids continuous data tracking. Direct on‑network control allows continued operation when internet access is interrupted.
Safety and form factor: The enclosure is molded from V0‑rated, fire‑retardant material and includes protections against short circuits and overloads. Its compact footprint minimizes blocking neighboring outlets while providing a durable, safety‑focused design.
Control options and use cases: Manage the outlet remotely via the vendor app, or operate hands‑free through Siri, Alexa or Google Assistant. Schedule timers, create routines and check energy reports to automate lights, appliances and other plug‑in devices. The plug is built to reduce standby power and support daily automation tasks.
Network & system notes: Matter over Wi‑Fi on this plug requires a 2.4 GHz network and IPv6. Thread is not supported. A Matter‑capable hub/controller is needed for some ecosystems. Mobile device requirements include iOS 16.1 or later, or Android 8.1 and up. For Echo zero‑touch setup, the purchasing account must match the Echo account for automatic discovery.
Pros
- Works across major Matter‑certified platforms
- Built‑in energy monitoring with historical data
- LAN control option and V0 fire‑retardant casing
Cons
- Requires 2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi and IPv6 (no Thread)
- Zero‑touch Echo setup needs matching account
- Some users report intermittent firmware/pairing issues
VerdictA versatile smart outlet that brings Matter interoperability, live energy tracking and voice control to a compact, safety‑rated package. It’s great for users who want multi‑platform flexibility, local LAN access and scheduling through the app or voice assistants. Setup is straightforward for most users, though network and account requirements (2.4 GHz Wi‑Fi, IPv6, matching Echo account for zero‑to

Needed to disable band‑steering, then they paired fine
These aren’t suitable for the HomeKit presence hack (they act as outlets, not switches like the outdoor models). I had trouble adding them to HomeKit until I turned off band‑steering on my mesh router — once disabled they paired quickly, in about a minute instead of several.

Extremely reliable — I run many of them
I have 22 of these in ongoing use across the property, some in daily service for over a year with zero failures or disconnects. During pairing make sure your phone is on the 2.4 GHz band you want the plug to use; after pairing you can switch bands. Easy to pair with HomeKit and very dependable in my experience.

Reliable performance and ongoing firmware support
These plugs have worked well for months and the company has issued a few firmware updates. Energy tracking is useful and HomeKit automations have been reliable. Signal range is strong — one unit controls items through a concrete block wall from the garage. They do cover neighboring sockets on some strips, but mini extenders solve that. The side indicator makes manual control easy when my phone isn’t handy.

Stopped working after a short time
I used one to control a bedside lamp and it worked well at first, but then it failed. A factory reset restored it for a day and then it died again. I tried adding the other units from the pack to HomeKit but none would connect. Ultimately a disappointing and unreliable experience for me.

Promising start, then connectivity problems — now better
Initial performance was excellent and I ordered more, but after a firmware update several units began losing HomeKit pairing and required repeated re‑pairing. That was frustrating until later updates; since a subsequent firmware the plugs and a garage controller have been stable. After the fixes I’d give them four stars.

Impressive functionality, slightly different pairing flow
After years with another brand I tried these Matter plugs and was impressed. The paper manual suggested scanning a QR, but I first chose add device and watched the short onboarding video which then opened the camera to scan the code. In moments the plug was in both Apple Home and the vendor app, and offered options to add to Alexa or Google Home as well. Overall a smooth experience.

Meross app worked where Matter via Alexa struggled
I tried adding four MSS315s to Alexa via Matter but only three would stay correctly registered; adding the fourth overwrote an existing device. I don’t know if it was my Echo, network firewall or Matter itself. The Meross app, however, handled all four devices flawlessly, and linking that app to Alexa gave me control through the skill. Hoping future firmware improves native Matter behavior.

Solid upgrade from older Meross plugs
I’ve owned several Meross devices and these Matter plugs are a step up. I purchased a four‑pack after trying their minis and appreciated how quickly they paired. The added power‑usage tracking in the app is handy for seeing what each device consumes. Setup was fast — I had them running in a couple minutes. Note: my phone needs to be on the 2.4 GHz network during pairing since I separate my bands. Pro tip: use the Meross app for setup rather than the Home app.
