Cordierite Ceramic Soldering Board (Firebrick) for Jewelry Making
Product description
Material and durability: Made from cordierite ceramic, this soldering board is acid-resistant, flame-resistant, and non-combustible. It tolerates extreme heat—rated for temperatures up to about 2100°F (≈1200°C)—making it suitable for most jewelry soldering and small casting tasks.
Design and use: The board has a flat, solid top without perforations, so it can sit directly on a tabletop or be placed under a honeycomb brick to add protection. Its smooth surface helps keep pieces steady while you work and minimizes scorch marks on your bench. Lightweight yet heat-reflective, it’s designed to reduce the chance of desktop damage during short-term soldering.
Size and contents: Single-pack dimensions are 5-1/4" x 3-5/8" x 1/2". Package includes: 1 x Cordierite Ceramic Soldering Board. Intended applications include soldering and welding small gold and silver jewelry components and assisting with melting or casting tasks at a modest scale. For extended periods of intense heat, add an insulating layer beneath the board to protect any sensitive surfaces.
Pros
- High-temperature cordierite construction
- Flat, hole-free work surface
- Compact and lightweight
Cons
- May need extra insulation for long heats
- Small size limits large projects
- Not a replacement for full kiln setups
VerdictA compact, robust firebrick that suits hobbyist and small-scale jewelry work. The cordierite construction stands up to very high temperatures while keeping heat away from your workbench. Its flat, no-hole surface is convenient for delicate assembly and quick soldering jobs, though heavier insulation beneath may be needed for prolonged high-heat operations.

Meets expectations
The board’s size and build matched what I needed. It tolerated a 1,400°F flame without issue and gave me plenty of working area. Very good value overall.

Good for short heats
Works fine for quick soldering and copper welding. For longer sessions add more insulation underneath — I warped my vinyl mat by mistake.
