Colour Primer — Wolf Grey Spray Primer for Miniatures
Product description
Prime and tint in a single step. This aerosol colour primer gives miniatures a pigmented base while laying down a dedicated primer layer, so plastic, resin and metal figures get a stable surface to accept further paint.
Wolf Grey is a cool grey-blue tone that works well for urban clothing, Space Wolves-style fur, monsters, armour and other cool-toned schemes. It’s a versatile alternative to pure blue when you want a slightly muted, icy base across fantasy, sci-fi or historical models.
Designed specifically for miniature work, the formula is an acrylic-based spray that dries to a matt finish and is tuned to preserve sculpted edges and fine detail. The precision spray head spreads colour evenly without filling in recesses, preparing minis for Warpaints Fanatic, Speedpaint and a wide range of acrylic paints.
For best application: shake the can for at least one minute before use and test-spray on scrap. Hold the can about 6–8 inches (15–20 cm) from the miniature and apply a series of thin, short bursts rather than one heavy coat; allow each thin layer to dry before adding the next. Avoid spraying in extreme heat, cold or very humid conditions.
After priming, continue painting with traditional basecoats, layers and highlights using Warpaints Fanatic or add Speedpaint shades to build your scheme. Colour Primer comes in 24 shades with matching Warpaints options so you can quickly establish the primary hue on your miniature before detailing.
Includes: one aerosol can of acrylic-based colour primer. Suitable for: plastic, resin and metal miniatures. Finish: matt. Recommended distance: 15–20 cm. Coverage: multiple thin coats for best results.

VerdictThis Wolf Grey colour primer combines undercoat and base shade, speeding setup while keeping fine sculpting crisp. Best results come from careful shaking, test sprays and several light passes; watch for strong smell and handle the protective cap with care.

Saves time on hobby nights
I prime on the balcony in short passes between chores. It sprays smooth and dries fast enough to start basecoating while my tea cools. The white base brightens colours without a chalky look.

Good coverage after a quick test-spray
First use threw off some tiny particles until I did a short pre-spray. After that it went on evenly and covered well. I used the whole can and will replace it. I waited 24 hours before painting.

Top white primer for brighter colours
It levels nicely without clogging detail, accepts acrylics very well and gives solid coverage — I still prefer two light coats. White helps colours pop; black keeps recesses dark. (Ignore my messy paint job.)

Best primer for Warhammer
Consistent quality, economical in use and quick to dry. There are cheaper options, but this remains my favourite primer for detail work.

Solid finishing spray for outdoor use
Picked this up to seal minis at an outdoor table. The smell is strong so I step back, but the coat dries clear and smooth and my ranger looked great afterward.

Watch the cap — nozzle can break
Good paint but the plastic cap is fiddly. If you handle it like a normal can you can snap the nozzle. Follow removal tips and they offered a refund or replacement when mine was damaged.

Perfect for hobbyists
A very handy tool for amateur miniature painters — dependable and easy to use.

Works well, worth the cost if you can
Great for prepping model kits before detailed painting. It’s a little pricey but performs reliably. I can’t show a photo since I bought my can elsewhere.

Reliable when used as directed
Gives smooth, even coats and keeps detail intact. People who report clumps often haven’t shaken it long enough — I always follow the one-minute shake and haven’t had issues. Will buy again.

Performs well but feels pricey
Dries quickly and covers many minis. Occasionally I miss spots — user error more than product. Sprays cleanly but is strong-smelling, so use outside. A bit expensive but effective.

Inconsistent cans gave me trouble
After several satisfactory cans I had a few that sprayed unexpectedly and ruined minis. I followed instructions and stored them reasonably, so the inconsistent results were frustrating.
