CHAUVET DJ Hurricane 1200 Fog Machine — Compact High-Output Smoke Unit
Product description
The Hurricane 1200 ships with a corded timer remote that lets you select interval bursts or continuous delivery and includes a manual fog button for on-demand bursts. The unit is designed for rapid deployment: the heater reaches operating temperature in about two minutes so you can start producing dense fog almost immediately.
Built with a metal chassis and a clear, LED-illuminated fluid tank for simple visual checks, the machine runs on standard 120 VAC, 60 Hz power. It delivers up to 18,000 CFM of fog output with an average fluid consumption in the neighborhood of 28 milliliters per minute. An advanced fluid sensor and automatic shutoff protect the pump from running dry or overheating, and the water-based formula produces residue-free fog when proper fluids are used.
Physically compact for portability, users have measured models around 10" wide x 7" high x 14" long including the non-flexible power cord. For dependable results and to avoid deposits in the heater, use compatible CHAUVET DJ fluids (FJU, HDF, or QDF) and flush the unit with water or a mild cleaning solution when storing it for extended periods.

Avoid this unit if you need long-term reliability
Worked fine the first season, but failed the next — an internal breaker seemed to trip and required opening the case to reset. Support replaced it under warranty, but the replacement arrived after my event and reportedly had no warranty. The new unit also started failing after brief use. Not reliable for yearly seasonal use unless you accept possible downtime.

Timer functionality is exactly what I needed
Replacing an older CHAUVET model, this one is smaller and more efficient yet delivers equivalent fog. I’ve run it on a 2-minute cycle about nine hours a day for two weeks with no trouble. Note: actual measured size was about 10" W x 7" H x 14" L including the fixed cord, not the listed dimensions I originally saw.

Inconsistent but can work with effort
Out of the box it ran well for 15 minutes, then stopped working after adjustments. Leaves a very slippery residue on floors, so be careful. We removed the shroud to access and reset thermostats as needed and ran it successfully for several hours during a haunted house run. Plan on doing periodic vinegar/distilled-water flushes.

Perfect for its size
Quite powerful given the compact footprint. Consistent quality like other CHAUVET gear I've used.

Good performance for a first proper fog machine
This is my first full-size fogger after using cheap party units. I ran it four times (with and without the corded timer) and cleaned the lines once. It's far better than the $60–$70 party machines, the LED tank makes priming obvious, and one tankful lasted a full evening for my Halloween yard display. The included remote is corded rather than wireless, but it does the job.

Quick heat and featureful remote
Heats up fast and produces a strong fog output. The remote offers manual, timed, and continuous modes (haven't tried continuous yet). Overall a dependable performer.

Solid performer with easy maintenance
Used nightly for a couple of weeks around Halloween without mid-run cleaning. Between longer gaps I flushed the suction line with water and used vinegar solution for long-term storage. After months unused it still fired up fine. Using quality fog fluid helped; running it at half power gave plenty of yard coverage without overheating.

Surprisingly powerful but feels light for its output
Bought for yard displays and a large event. It seems a bit light for the heat it produces, which makes me wonder if internal mass issues cause some failures. The nozzle has a small inner tube that emits the fog and a surrounding diffuser ring; if that inner tube sits off-center it might affect performance.

Excellent fog output
Powerful fog with only a few minutes of warm-up. The remote programming for automatic bursts is very handy. Quality of the fog fluid matters — avoid the cheapest options. The strong jet fills a large room quickly and pairs well with lasers for dramatic effects.

Portable and controllable
Light enough to carry and small enough to fit into tight setups. Each puff is easily controlled and the fog lingers long enough for flow-field measurements and similar tests.

Well built, steady output, useful tank lights
Smaller than I expected but solidly made with a metal body. The corded remote’s variable output is excellent — from trickle to steady flood — and while another higher-watt unit produces a larger instantaneous blast, this machine’s constant output yields more fog overall. The tank LEDs make refills easy and discreet in displays.

DOA and then unreliable
First unit arrived dead. Replacement worked briefly but then became flaky; it required fussing to detect fluid even when the tank was full. It also spat liquid onto the floor during an hour of use, leaving puddles. I like the brand generally, but this unit was disappointing.
