Dixit — Creative Storytelling Party Game (3–8 Players, Ages 8+, 30 Min)
Product description
An award-winning storytelling party game that turns evocative artwork into a social guessing game. Each round one player is the storyteller, selects a card from their hand and gives a clue — a word, phrase, sound or gesture. Other players privately choose a card from their hands that they feel matches the clue. Cards are revealed, everyone votes, and points are awarded based on correct guesses and on deceiving others. The aim is to hit the sweet spot: be neither too obvious nor too obscure.
The box contains a deck of richly illustrated cards printed on sturdy, thick cardstock, individual voting tokens for each player, a scoring track and marker, plus a rulebook. Cards are roughly the size of standard playing cards and feel solid in hand; the scoring piece is a small wooden marker. Components are made for repeated family use and the edition includes refreshed parts compared with earlier releases.
Designed for 3–8 players, suitable for ages 8 and up, Dixit typically plays in about 30 minutes per session. The imagery is surreal and whimsical, intended to spark associations and conversation rather than depict literal scenes. This edition is compatible with a variety of themed expansion packs that add fresh artwork and help keep storytelling varied and new.
Gameplay is straightforward: choose your storyteller, pick and clue a card, secretly submit matching cards, reveal them, and vote. Tally points for clever clues and for fooling other players. The balance between hinting just enough and remaining tasteful is the strategic heart of Dixit, making it fun for families, mixed-age groups, and casual competitive gatherings.
Pros
- Beautiful, evocative artwork that fuels imagination
- Quick to learn with deep replay value
- Works well for mixed-age groups
Cons
- Depends on players’ creativity for peak fun
- Younger children may lose interest quickly
- A few components can be snug or fiddly
VerdictDixit rewards imagination: its dreamlike artwork and simple mechanics let groups of mixed ages share laughs and surprising moments. Rounds are short, rules are easy to pick up, and the game scales from casual family play to more strategic rounds among creative friends. Best with playful, expressive players and it’s easy to expand with extra card packs.

Requires a bit of wordplay
We played as a family and had a blast. The artwork is gorgeous — each card feels like a story fragment. It took a little time to get the hang of the rules.

This game has a different vibe and I enjoyed it a lot. How funny it gets depends on how creative your group is, but it can be very entertaining.

Hilarious with friends
Great for our group of friends. It took a couple rounds to learn the scoring and clueing, but once we did it produced a lot of laughs.

Best with imaginative groups
A blast for the whole family, especially with more players and creative minds. New players may struggle with abstract clues, and young kids can get bored quickly.

No reading required
Perfect for mixed-language groups — the picture-based play meant everyone could join in, even those who don’t read English well.
