Yixing Zisha 14oz Purple Clay Teapot — Handmade Kung Fu Tea Kettle
Product description
Includes one handmade Chinese Yixing (zisha) teapot sized at 6.69 × 3.54 in (17 × 9 cm) with a capacity of approximately 14.2 oz (420 ml).
Constructed from natural purple sand clay, this teapot benefits from the material's porosity and mineral content. The clay's breathability helps develop a fuller, smoother infusion and tends to preserve tea color, scent and taste over repeated use without rapid deterioration.
Designed for a wide range of loose teas, the pot is suitable for pu'er, Tieguanyin, Dahongpao, Longjing, green, black, oolong and other loose-leaf varieties. Its size and clay profile make it versatile for daily steeping as well as casual gongfu sessions where a slightly larger vessel is acceptable.
The body is round and full with fine workmanship: internal filter holes at the spout, a bead-style knob on the lid, an ergonomic handle and a spout positioned for clean pouring. The lid and body are produced with a nesting technique that provides a tight seal; the lid remains stable when tilted to a 90-degree angle.
To use, place the desired leaves into the pot, pour in hot water and steep for the appropriate time — within minutes the brew will grow richer and more fragrant. Simple care and regular rinsing after use will keep the teapot in good condition.
Pros
- Authentic Yixing purple clay that enhances tea flavor
- Tight-fitting lid and internal filter for clean pours
- Comfortable handle and traditional, durable construction
Cons
- 14oz may be larger than preferred for small gongfu servings
- Flat-top geometry can trap leaves when emptying
- Low spout placement may limit how full it can be filled
VerdictA well-crafted, traditional purple-clay teapot that brings out the character of loose teas. The 14oz size suits small-group or everyday brewing; breathable zisha clay improves aroma and mouthfeel. Watch sizing if you want a tiny gongfu brew pot.

Hard to dump leaves
Brews well, but the flat top traps wet leaves and makes emptying a chore. A more sloped interior would be easier to clean.

Small, beautifully made single-serve pot
This brews about one cup at a time but is a lovely piece of workmanship. Its simple, clean form makes it a dependable daily teapot. I use it often.

As described
Exactly what the listing said — a nice, straightforward teapot.

Design flaw — filling limited
The spout sits low, so you can’t fill the pot all the way. The actual piece also looked noticeably different from the photos.

Low-key and well liked
My wife was delighted with it — it completed a set she was assembling.

Bigger than expected for gongfu
Nice tone and finish, but it turned out roughly three times larger than I thought. It feels heavy and too large for the small gongfu pours I wanted, so I'll return it. Otherwise it's fine.
